On the road to Larca from Uterga

I woke up early this morning at 6:30. Just in time for breakfast. A slice of bread, butter and jam. Packed and headed off out of town. Only 4 miles to Puente La Reina and then through a series of small towns.

I stopped for a tart at one of the local shops roaming the medieval cobblestone streets of Puente La Reina. While crossing the medieval bridge a movie was being films and we had to wait while actors on period bicles filmed a Spanish film. At the end of the street, the monumental Romanesque bridge over the Arga that gives this town its name. It is certain that it was built for the passage of pilgrims, although it is not so certain that it was ordered to be built by Queen Doña Mayor. Further along I came across millions of strange snails clinging to the grass and pine trees with large nut like seeds. I sat for a bit to have an orange and drink some water. I took advantage of the fans I brought and cooked down before leaving and heading into Maneru.

I made it to Lorca ar 12.6 miles. That's 32,000 steps. I crossed a roman road and old Roman bridge. Coming into Lorca was like seeing old friends. Many I had seen in past cities were here and new people. I went to the first place but they were full so I came to the Albergue de Lorca La Bodega del Camino. Dinner was an international affair with 2 English, 2 French, 2 Italians, 1 Netherlands, 1 Romanian, 1 Iceland and myself. It made only sense we honor how each of our countries have seen the Queen of England on the night of her death, Absolutely amazing.

Tomorrow I head to Estella at just over 10km or 6 miles. It will be a short day.
